33 1/3 Series Update

cropped-33third_spines_2013_lr.png

The 33 1/3 series started in Fall 2003. Well, it started long before then, but that’s when Continuum published the first few volumes.

Since then it has grown into one of the most important platforms for music writing…and IN PRINT nonetheless. So thank you for your continued support.

We are just about to hit the 10 year marker for the series and we’ll be celebrating this momentous occasion all next year.

There will be a flurry of activity on this blog as well as author events, readings and listening parties. More on all of that soon…

But let’s get to the books.

The next 5 volumes in the series will be:

#87 Serge Gainsbourg’s Histoire de Melody Nelson by Darran Anderson

Publication date: October 24, 2013. Pre-order here.

#88 They Might Be Giants’ Flood by S. Alexander Reed and Philip Sandifer

#89 Andrew WK’s I Get Wet by Phillip Crandall

#90 Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works Volume II by Marc Weidenbaum

#91 Beach Boys’ Smile by Luis A. Sanchez

Shortly followed by:
Gang of Four’s Entertainment!, by Kevin Dettmar

Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville by Gina Arnold
Oasis’ Definitely Maybe, by Alex Niven

Hole’s Live Through This, by Anwyn Crawford
Michael Jackson’s Dangerous, by Susan Fast
Dead Kennedys’ Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, by Mike Foley (Q&A to come!)
Devo’s Freedom of Choice, by Evie Nagy

So that means we’ll hit 100 Volumes in Fall 2014!!!!

Bloody hell that’s amazing.

Oh and guess what?

The next open call for 33 1/3 series proposals will be announced on January 31, 2014, right here on this blog.

The requirements will be slightly different from the last round, but our How To Submit page should give you a good idea of what’s expected.

Congrats, you guys. Serious props to keep the series alive and in print over the last decade, which has not been the most friendly climate for book publishing, to say the least. Cheers.
