33 Things: February Edition

Every month, editorial assistant Michelle Chen will compile the best, weirdest, most interesting music and sound news from the past 30 days and serve it up to you in one handy, easy to digest list. May we present 33 Things that happened in February?

  1. Today we officially published our brand new textbook, How to Write About Music: Excerpts from the 33 1/3 Series, Magazines, Books and Blogs with Advice from Industry-leading Writers. If you’re in the NYC area, be sure to come to our launch party next week at Word bookstore in Brooklyn!
  2. While you’re out buying our book, you can now also pick up coolest person ever Kim Gordon’s memoir Girl in a Band.
  3. But really, what’s a music memoir without some Lana Del Rey related controversy?
  4. Kanye did something insufferable again. So it goes.

  17. While we’re on the topic of irrelevant rappers, Vanilla Ice is still doing his thing.
  18. In the on-going drummer vs. bass-player debate, I guess we now know which side ISIS takes.
  19. Neil Young partnered with clothing label Supreme. Thus, check out these ugly T-shirts.
  20. Say goodbye to your autonomy. Say hello to “Global Music Data Alliance.”
  21. This is for all you 90s/early 2000s girls out there.
  22. Modest Mouse may have betrayed us pushed the release of Strangers to Ourselves two weeks, but they did give us another new song this month.
  23. Have you ever wondered what life is like as Lil Wayne’s daughter? Silly peasants; wonder no more.
  24. Cancel all your White Stripes-themed fiestas ASAP! That was not even Jack White’s guacamole recipe.
  25. Who knew heavy metal could be a disability?
  26. Do you have approximately $9000? If so, you could own Kurt Cobain’s credit card.
  27. I guess we’re never going to stop obsessing over Sleater-Kinney.
  28. In a similar vein, Pharrell made an appearance on The Simpsons (though in the world of animated-TV-meets-musician, nothing will ever quite top Beck’s disembodied head on Futurama).
  29. Yup, that dude from Blink-182 truly thinks that aliens exist.
  30. Remember Blur???
  31. Of course Lady Gaga is starring in the next season of American Horror Story.
