Upcoming Beat Happening Events (w/ Calvin Johnson) + SNEAK PEEK Foreword by Phil Elverum!

71N0a2CA5lL

As we’ve reminded you over and over again, we will soon be publishing Bryan Parker’s brand new 33 1/3 on Beat Happening’s Beat Happening–in just 21 (20?) short days! Be sure to pre-order your copy, and if you need more incentive (though why would you?) check out this SNEAK PEEK of the foreword, by Phil Elverum of The Microphones:

The basic assumption that one is allowed to do whatever was taken for granted, and this certainty defines the feeling of Beat Happening for me, especially the first album. Listening to the recordings, it’s easy to imagine that at no point was the legitimacy of the project questioned by the artists. For music that sounds so extremely raw this assumption seems almost insane. This big certainty works as a permission slip to everyone that hears it, or at least a young me.

EVENTS

To celebrate the release of the book, Bryan will be touring the Pacific Northwest, home of Beat Happening and K-Records with band frontman and label founder Calvin Johnson et al, before returning to Texas to do a reading at Books-a-Million. Then, in November, Bryan will join us in Brooklyn with Miles Davis author George Grella as we return to Word bookstore in Greenpoint (fingers crossed there’s less snow this time around). He’ll also be at events in Houston and Austin in mid-November. For dates and times of all Beat Happening events, see below! For updates, check out our events page.
