Someone needs to do Talk Talk’s Spirit of Eden/Laughing Stock. Can’t think of two albums more interesting and worthy of a book.

    1. paul stone

      I second that suggestion! 🙂

    2. MB

Colour of Spring……….fantastic album…….definitely needs a book. Also, Quiet is the New Loud by Kings of Convenience warrants a book.

      1. JD

Not sure if you know about the Spirit of Talk Talk book. I haven’t got my hands on it but have read it is amazing and has a lot of info about the album production.

      2. I am working on a proposal for Spirit of Eden.

    3. This is way better than a brick & mortar esnmtlishaetb.

    4. True points. If there are enough Maddoff’s, basically all that Bernakne money just gets sucked up with zero effect for the common good. Maybe Ben knows a thing or two which we are unaware of. So maybe he’s helping out his financial friends here and was not really thinking of us when he announced all that bailout money. The average goy is stupid enough to think it’s for the good of the country and all that.

Either “Sound of Silver” or “This is Happening” by LCD Soundsystem would make fantastic books, especially if you could get interviews with James and the other members. The records James made with LCD are some of the best of this generation, and there’s certainly more than enough to write about.

  78. Thanks – that’s what I was concerned about – but I’m working on a new (I think) angle. Appreciate the reply 🙂

  79. Are Beatles’ albums an attractive idea for proposals please?

    1. I think A LOT has been said about the Beatles already. Of course there’s always something new to say.

    1. Sure! We’re publishing Phish’s “A Live One” this November.

  80. What have been the top ten (or so) selling titles in this series?

  81. Steve

Someone DID write a Kate Bush book (http://www.amazon.com/Kate-Bushs-The-Dreaming-33/dp/0826428827). Why isn’t it on the list?

    1. I don’t think this book actually exists. It’s very unusual to have a book like this with zero copies held in any library (according to WorldCat), with no copies for sale used or new at Amazon (your link), Barnes and Noble, or even Abebooks.

      1. Hi! The Kate Bush book isn’t going to happen, we’ve tried to do what we can to let libraries and retailers know but the data is out there. Someone PLEASE propose a Kate Bush book!

  82. There’s no use in complaining that your favorite album or artist isn’t represented here. The books are submitted to the series, not commissioned, so if there’s no Kate Bush or Sonics or Melt-Banana or Shaggs book yet, it’s because no one has written one worth publishing. You are empowered to change this.

    1. We are empowered to change ANYTHING, really, but some of us obviously fail to realize that and are generally not worth our time pointing it out. Thanks for trying to light a fire. And thanks for the series – decent stuff.

  83. snaredrumfan

No Kate Bush or Laura Nyro but Liz Phair? Really?

    1. You are empowered to write a Kate Bush or Laura Nyro book and submit it to the series.

    2. someone made a failed attempt at The Dreaming.

  84. “Here Are the Sonics” is conspicuously absent from this list! Also, “The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators” and “Stoneage Romeos” by The Hoodoo Gurus…

Echoing aspicco’s comment. I love the series and came here looking to see if anything was either published or in the works on Van’s wonderful series of early-70s albums. Yes, Astral Weeks (the likeliest candidate) has been written about endlessly, but what about Moondance or Tupelo Honey or His Band and the Street Choir?

  94. no one wrote anything on any van morrison album? >weeping<
    did i miss it?

    Thanks

  100. The_Strand

I would love to see you guys cover anything by Fela Kuti or Scott Walker.

  101. Gaucho

I’m counting 12, not that it matters.

    1. yo

Of course it matters. It’s all these books with the same boring rockist white male list of albums, almost completely ignoring Rap and R&B outside of the few unavoidable obvious choices.

      1. MJackson

I want to see some brothers pictures on this wall NOW!!!!

  102. Saturate

Why are there only 8 records by non-white people out of a series of 89?

  103. hairyspiderlegs

Wasn’t there supposed to be book on “The Dreaming” by Kate Bush?

  104. […] I’ve finished The Village Green Preservation Society, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Led Zeppelin IV, Paul’s Boutique (working on my third time through… it’s that good), Use Your Illusion I and II, and Double Nickels on the Dime, and am currently in the wee pages of Let it Be. (Check out the 90 titles here.) […]

Why was PET SOUNDS, when reissued under the Bloomsbury banner, renumbered from 19 to 2? None of the other titles received a renumbering, I don’t think. Was it an error?

    No Psycho Candy?!?!?!

Any particular reason no Fugazi album has made it into the series?

  115. Will

Hey guys…if Michael’s gonna have volume #100 in the series with his “Dangerous ” album being covered, then what are volumes 89 to 99?

  116. sluggo

how about a book on otis redding and or the mgs..?
and wasn`t the lucinda williams book supposed to be out by now?

  117. Andrew

I know someone mentioned it above, any chance of the series being put out as a set?

  118. Gaucho

That’s not how it works and not what the series is about. I’d rather read a good book on a bad album (Let’s Talk About Love) than a bad book on a good album.

  119. Mario

Gosh, there’s nothing on Stereolab, shouldn’t there be? Well, that might be hard to do…

  120. sluggo

how about a book on otis redding and or the mgs..?

  121. Rakabash

“Superfly” by Curtis Mayfield needs to be the next 33 1/3 book. This album is seminal not only for 70s funk and r&b, but also to the film industry. Revolutionized how Hollywood promoted soundtracks and movie releases.

  122. I own a record store and would like to carry the entire series. What is the best contact to order for retail? Used or seconds are fine!

    1. Hi Elizabeth. That would be wonderful! Please get in touch with our US marketer, found on the “contact us” page. She will be able to point you in the right direction.

  123. […] Bowie’s Low, and Radiohead’s Kid A makes me very happy indeed. There are currently eighty-six books in the series. And for those of you who are not familiar with the series here’s an about […]

  127. gaucho

Weren’t Pulp’s “This Is Hardcore” and Clash’s “London Calling” supposed to be released?

  128. There’s a terrible link snafu above — clicking on SWORDFISHTROMBONES takes us to, of all things . . . Celine Dion. The Eyeball Kid is turning in his grave.

    1. Thanks, Giovanni. We’ve fixed it now. Good eye!

  129. monkeycatt

hey, when’s the next book coming out? (87)

  130. Michelle

Is there some kind of box set of all 86?

    1. Hi Michelle,

We’ve got something in the works for the first 100 volumes…stay tuned….

      1. Any more details on this?

        Hints? Clues? Cyphers? Smoke signals?

Will the Neutral Milk Hotel and/or Big Star books be reprinted?

i second this, i really don’t want to pay $35 for a used copy of the Big Star book

      1. Yes. Neutral Milk Hotel is already back in stock and Big Star is coming by the end of this month!
