Someone needs to do Talk Talk’s Spirit of Eden/Laughing Stock. Can’t think of two albums more interesting and worthy of a book.
I second that suggestion! 🙂
Colour of Spring……….fantastic album…….definitely needs a book. Also, Quiet is the New Loud by Kings of Convenience warrants a book.
Not sure if you know about the Spirit of Talk Talk book. I haven’t got my hands on it but have read it is amazing and has a lot of info about the album production.
I am working on a proposal for Spirit of Eden.
This is way better than a brick & mortar esnmtlishaetb.
True points. If there are enough Maddoff’s, basically all that Bernakne money just gets sucked up with zero effect for the common good. Maybe Ben knows a thing or two which we are unaware of. So maybe he’s helping out his financial friends here and was not really thinking of us when he announced all that bailout money. The average goy is stupid enough to think it’s for the good of the country and all that.
John Cale’s Paris 1919 is worthy of a book.

What happened to the 33 1/3 book on ‘Pinkerton’ ? – I don’t see it listed.
Some possible suggestions… Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s “Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven”, Boards of Canada’s “Music Has the Right to Children”, Modest Mouse’s “The Lonesome Crowded West”, The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness”, and Weezer’s “Blue Album”
Or possibly Pinkerton instead of the Blue Album? And something by Zappa. There’s too many to choose from!
I see ‘The Modern Lovers’ is upcoming, but Jonathan Richman’s run of albums from ‘Sings!’ through ‘I, Jonathan’ are all fun, interesting, and most of all unique. I’d love to see an essay on one (perhaps ‘Rockin’ & Romance’ or ‘I, Jonathan.’ Love the series!

Are Beatles’ albums an attractive idea for proposals please?
I think A LOT has been said about the Beatles already. Of course there’s always something new to say.
How about live albums?
Sure! We’re publishing Phish’s “A Live One” this November.
What have been the top ten (or so) selling titles in this series?
Someone DID write a Kate Bush book (http://www.amazon.com/Kate-Bushs-The-Dreaming-33/dp/0826428827). Why isn’t it on the list?
I don’t think this book actually exists. It’s very unusual to have a book like this with zero copies held in any library (according to WorldCat), with no copies for sale used or new at Amazon (your link), Barnes and Noble, or even Abebooks.
Hi! The Kate Bush book isn’t going to happen, we’ve tried to do what we can to let libraries and retailers know but the data is out there. Someone PLEASE propose a Kate Bush book!
There’s no use in complaining that your favorite album or artist isn’t represented here. The books are submitted to the series, not commissioned, so if there’s no Kate Bush or Sonics or Melt-Banana or Shaggs book yet, it’s because no one has written one worth publishing. You are empowered to change this.
We are empowered to change ANYTHING, really, but some of us obviously fail to realize that and are generally not worth our time pointing it out. Thanks for trying to light a fire. And thanks for the series – decent stuff.
No Kate Bush or Laura Nyro but Liz Phair? Really?
You are empowered to write a Kate Bush or Laura Nyro book and submit it to the series.
someone made a failed attempt at The Dreaming.
“Here Are the Sonics” is conspicuously absent from this list! Also, “The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators” and “Stoneage Romeos” by The Hoodoo Gurus…

Echoing aspicco’s comment. I love the series and came here looking to see if anything was either published or in the works on Van’s wonderful series of early-70s albums. Yes, Astral Weeks (the likeliest candidate) has been written about endlessly, but what about Moondance or Tupelo Honey or His Band and the Street Choir?

Of course it matters. It’s all these books with the same boring rockist white male list of albums, almost completely ignoring Rap and R&B outside of the few unavoidable obvious choices.

Hey guys…if Michael’s gonna have volume #100 in the series with his “Dangerous ” album being covered, then what are volumes 89 to 99?
how about a book on otis redding and or the mgs..?
and wasn`t the lucinda williams book supposed to be out by now?
I know someone mentioned it above, any chance of the series being put out as a set?
That’s not how it works and not what the series is about. I’d rather read a good book on a bad album (Let’s Talk About Love) than a bad book on a good album.
Gosh, there’s nothing on Stereolab, shouldn’t there be? Well, that might be hard to do…
how about a book on otis redding and or the mgs..?
“Superfly” by Curtis Mayfield needs to be the next 33 1/3 book. This album is seminal not only for 70s funk and r&b, but also to the film industry. Revolutionized how Hollywood promoted soundtracks and movie releases.
