Announcing the newest 33 1/3s

We are so excited to finally be able to announce our selections from the 2022 33 1/3 open call. We know that it feels like a long time since the submission window closed, but we’ve been hard at work reading through proposals, sending them on to external advisors*, discussing internally, getting in touch with authors, and making the projects official. So without further delay, here is the list of new titles:

Bright Eyes’ I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning by Hannah Seidlitz

Café Tacvba’s Re by Carmelo Esterrich

Cocteau Twins’ Blue Bell Knoll by Chris Tapley

Erykah Badu’s New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh) by Kameryn Alexa Carter

Garth Brooks’ In the Life of Chris Gaines by Stephen Deusner

John Cale’s Paris 1919 by Mark Doyle

Kate Bush’s Hounds of Love by Leah Kardos

Ministry’s The Land of Rape and Honey by Jason Pettigrew

Modest Mouse’s The Moon & Antarctica by Zachary Petit

No Doubt’s Tragic Kingdom by Rhae Lynn Barnes

Pulp’s This Is Hardcore by Jane Savidge

Sinead O’Connor’s Universal Mother by Adele Bertei

The Isley Brothers’ 3+3 by Darrell M. McNeill

Various Artists’ Red Hot + Blue by John S. Garrison

Yo La Tengo’s And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out by Elliott Simpson

You can expect these books to begin publishing in early 2024. We hope that this list includes both some well-loved and new albums for you to explore.

We also wanted to give a big heartfelt thanks to each and every person who took the time to submit a proposal. There were many brilliant submissions and many, many proposals that we very nearly included in this list.

*A big thanks to our external advisors, who were integral in our selection process: Samantha Bennett, Sean Maloney, boice Terrel-Allen, Sarah Piña, and Ryan Pinkard.
