It’s been a wild ride but here are the one hundred and six 33 1/3 proposals still under consideration. This list was selected from the 410 submissions.
If you see an album with a name in parenthesis next to it- that means there were multiple submissions for that album and I have noted the first name of the author of the proposal I’m still considering. If there are two names in parenthesis that means I’m still considering two separate proposals on that album.

What happens now?
These 106 will be analyzed and scrutinized. From this short list will come the 10 to 20 proposals that will be issued contracts for books. I hope to make that announcement before the end of May since all of these writers have promised to deliver manuscripts within one year.
Special thanks to EVERYONE who submitted! Your hard work is not lost on us!
Enjoy!
If you have any questions…please post them in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer them.

[…] 33 1/3 announced their finalists for this year’s crop of books today, and of the 400-ish submissions mine didn’t even make the top 100. Such are the […]

Exciting times. Good luck everyone!
See a lot of great artists on here: Pulp, Bowie, Mobb Deep, Sleater-Kinney, The Melvins, Beasties, Smashing Pumpkins, etc. I would have to buy “Bitches Brew” the minute it came out, but the proposal I’m most intrigued by is certainly Miley Cyrus’ “Bangerz”. I might not purchase it, but I would definitely be interested to see how well written this proposal was to justify that being a 33 1/3 caliber album! “Bitches Brew” and “Odelay” would definitely be immediate purchases for me though. Congratulations to everyone!
I would love to see any of those who want to post their proposals that didn’t make this list
16 Tamborines!
So many great titles on this list! These are the books I would buy if you published them:
“Beat Happening” – Beat Happening
“Beauty and the Beat” – The Go-Go’s
“Lolita Nation” – Game Theory
“Metal Box” – Public Image Ltd
“Psychocandy” – The Jesus and Mary Chain
“Radio-Activity” – Kraftwerk
“Sixteen Tambourines” – Three O’ Clock
“The Raincoats” – The Raincoats
Good afternoon.
I have the feeling that the books are more “US taste oriented” than evenly-ish split with other countries tastes.
For instance: Combat Rock for The Clash? Not the debut album (The Scream) for Siouxsie and the Banshees? No-one thinks about The Jam? And I am not name dropping younger-ish artists (like Manic Street Preachers or Placebo).
Maybe a shortlist with readers will balance?
Thanks for reading this.

Congratulations to everyone who made it through the first stage of evaluation, and to everyone who submitted. Finishing things can be the hardest part.
Sad, of course, not to be included, but these all look great. Congratulations!
Congratulations, Top 106! I look forward to the final selections.
Was really hoping my Alex Chilton proposal was deemed worthy,ah well….good luck to all still standing….and I’m gonna finish my Chilton book and post it online for free,so look for it!….
That would be extremely helpful and, frankly, considerate.
Since 33 1/3 is not giving feedback on rejected proposals, is there a forum available for those rejected who would like some constructive feedback / advice?
Definitely feel free to post your proposals online to invite constructive feedback. You can use this blog or the 33 1/3 facebook page as a forum.
Damn, no Joplin (or me).
16 Tambourines would be great! The Three O’Clock
Something/Anything!
Oh, definitely! It’s about time Todd graced the series, I tried a few years ago with a proposal on Nearly Human that was rejected – Even though I was very disappointed, I felt like a real author – I got a rejection slip !
Just for the sheer originality of the proposition and the epicness that such a book would be, I’d give my vote to Super Mario Bros !
My top four picks would be… Lolita Nation , Sixteen Tambourines, Kimono My House, and Odelay
Lolita Nation all the way.
I would LOVE to have a Three O’Clock 16 Tambourines book! It’s a classic! I love this series SO much.
I’d so go for a book on Lolita Nation! It’s being reissued….
Hi guys…would it be ok to post a link here to my rejected proposal? Just to get some feedback for the next time 🙁
Congratulations to those who made the shortlist! I’m sad to see I didn’t make the cut but hope to see the following titles from the above list published- ‘This is Hardcore’, ‘XTRMNTR’, ‘My Life in the Bush of Ghosts’, ‘Metal Box’, ‘Computer World’ and ‘Combat Rock’

NKOTB, huh?
Fingers crossed for LOLITA NATION…
I would love to read a book on the Mountain Goats “Tallahassee”… I hope that one is selected! Darnell is a fascinating guy!
Nice collection of hip-hop books made it through, I would definitely buy –
De La Soul, Big Daddy Kane, ODB, The Geto Boys, Mobb Deep…
I second this motion….and wonder if anyone took up the beast that is 36 Chambers…
There were also two Demon Days proposals. Just wondering which one is included in the short list. Thanks!
Updated! Thank you!

There were two Violator proposals, but there’s no name beside this shortlist one and so….
Have updated with the short-listed proposal. Thank you!
Congratulations to everyone who made it through! Good luck and good writing!
Excellent list! As a huge fan of the series (I own something on the order of 35 of your books), I will say that I would immediately buy:
“13″ – Blur
“Automatic for the People” – R.E.M
“Combat Rock” The Clash
“Diary” – Sunny Day Real Estate
“Emergency & I” – The Dismemberment Plan (one of my favorite bands of all time)
“Extricate” – The Fall
“Homogenic”- Björk
“Hounds of Love” – Kate Bush
“Metal Box” – Public Image Ltd (Ryan)
“My Life In The Bush of Ghosts” – Brian Eno/David Byrne
“Things We Lost in the Fire” – Low
“You Forgot It In People” – Broken Social Scene
Looking forward to seeing the final selections!
Is it kosher to reuse/republish the sample first chapter elsewhere if our proposal hasn’t made it to this round?
Hi Steven – that’s perfectly kosher.
