33 Things: July Edition

Every month, editorial assistant Michelle Chen will compile the best, weirdest, most interesting music and sound news from the past 30 days and serve it up to you in one handy, easy to digest list. May we present 33 Things that happened in July?

1. July 27^th marked the end of our Open Call where we received over 600 proposals! Have a look through the long list of every album proposed this year.
2. This one technically happened in June BUT if you missed the New Yorker’s fantastic feature on Andrew Schartmann’s new 33 1/3 on Super Mario Bros, definitely read it right now.
3. On the topic of new 33 1/3s, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables author Michael Stewart Foley appeared in Punk Globe zine this past Friday—the first historian they’ve ever interviewed in their 39 years of existence!
4. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that the MTV VMA nominations caused some Twitter drama.
5. And yet Nicki Minaj did not seem to learn that “Taylor Swift is Not Your Friend.”
6. It’s funny how quickly one photo can escalate into a media spectacle.
7. Get out your riot grrrl gear because Bikini Kill has announced that they will be reissuing their 1991 demo tape Revolution Girl Style Now on vinyl, CD and Digital!

9. Then perhaps actually listen to The Black Album because metal fans are apparently happier than everyone else. 
10. Apparently HBO missed the memo about how much people hate U2.

12. That, or rewatch 8-Mile semi(?)-ironically as you consider reliving your childhood and attending this tentative N.W.A. and Eminem tour.

33. And finally, it turns out that July is truly the month of Eminem.
