Bloomsbury: The Bands

Former keeper of the 33 1/3 flame, editor David Barker, has put together an amazingly comprehensive Spotify playlist of 21 songs all written or performed by Bloomsbury authors.

Highlights include the best use in popular song of the words “unboyfriendable” (track 3) and “ventricles” (track 14); the first piece of music ever inspired by a Barnes & Noble product category (track 8); remarkable cover versions of songs by Olivia Newton-John (track 20) and Blur (track 21); as well as – I suspect – the best pop song ever written about avant-garde British writer B.S. Johnson (track 7).

I propose we put together a Bloomsbury Band, similar to The Rock Bottom Remainders.

Visit our 33 1/3 series page and let us know if we are missing anyone!

Alex Reed of the TMBG book fame is frontman of ThouShaltNot, who did some strong gothish records. “When I Crash” and “Inside of You, In Spite of You” are great songs.
