IZ’s Facing Future – further details

Dan Kois’ fascinating and excellent study of Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s classic album continues to pick up attention.

This weekend, Dan will be reading from the book at Boswell Books in Milwaukee – at 2pm on Sunday, to be precise. Details of the event can be found here.

Tied in to the event, there’s a great piece in the Journal Sentinel today about Dan and the book. Here’s a short extract:

“Some of the books in the series use familiar albums as launching pads for commentary and flights of fancy. Kois’ book stands out both for being the story of a world music album, not rock or rap, and for being primarily a detailed piece of reporting about how Iz came to record these songs and how Mountain Apple record producer Jon de Mello licensed and leveraged the music to stratospheric success.

At first, Kois thought his book might be the cheeky tale of a mainlander getting brushed off by islanders as he tried to engage them about Iz. Instead, he discovered Hawaiians loved talking about the singer and the album.”

And you can read the rest of the article here.

There’s also some radio coming up, and you can read about that on Dan’s blog.

  1. Hi David,My question is similar to the person's above–I was in touch a few years back when I made a book proposal, but that email address is not working now. I'm curious if there are any plans for calling for new proposals, and generally how to get in touch with you. Thanks.David Pence

  2. David, what's the best way to get in touch with you these days regarding business stuff? I'd spoken to you a while back and you wanted me to touch back with you at some point.
