New 33 1/3 books out today! An Elton and Judy double feature?

During this time of quarantine and isolation, we’re all trying to figure out how to stay connected and engaged with the world around us. Of course, one of the biggest ways we are doing that is by constantly consuming and sharing content. Where would we be if we didn’t have music, books, and television to provide a steady stream of entertainment and comfort? It sometimes seems like a lot of what we have to look forward to on a day-to-day basis can revolve around these exact things, so to coincide with the release of our two new 33 1/3 titles we wanted to provide you with a couple of options that tick off all three boxes.

  1. Elton John

There’s nothing like listening to Elton John while trying and failing to hit some of those high notes. Fortunately, 2019 provided us with the perfect movie to celebrate this pop rock legend. If you haven’t seen Rocketman yet, now’s the time. In the same vein as Bohemian Rhapsody, also 2019, it follows the story of Elton John’s rise to fame and his life since. Funny and dramatic with an excellent mix of music and all the flashy fashion you never knew you wanted, it’s a must see for music fans.

If you’re waiting for the movie to become available on your favorite streaming service, need more Elton John once the two-hour movie is up, or just crave a quick weekend read, then our new book

Elton John’s Blue Moves is here for you. Our first 33 1/3 centering around the artist, it talks about what could be considered a failure of an album and the decline of John’s popularity. Was Blue Moves to blame or were there other elements at play? A great look into the history and culture of the music scene during the late 1970s.

2. Judy Garland

Speaking of comfort films, the movie that made this performer a global star at only 17 might just be the ultimate soothing throwback. But Judy Garland was a woman of so many talents beyond The Wizard of Oz. An actress, singer, and dancer, her career was full of unbelievable scenes and breathtaking live shows. And 2019 came through for us again with the beautifully produced film Judy.  It captures all angles of Garland, from her confidence and strength to her heart-wrenching background and personal life. Her story will have you shaking with laughter, with tears, with pure amazement.

Again, to go along with the movie, we have the perfect 33 1/3 for you. That’s right, Judy Garland’s Judy at Carnegie Hall is finally here. It discusses the stellar live performance recording that spent more than 70 weeks on the Billboard charts, won four Grammy Awards—including Album of the Year (making it the first live music album and the first album by a female performer to win the category)—and became, in the process, the fastest-selling two-disc set in history. If you want a short book to boost your Goodreads goal that accurately depicts the pure brilliance that is Judy Garland, then look no further.

So place your orders now, break out the popcorn, and settle in for a stay-at-home-33 1/3 double feature!
