April 9th: The Art of the Album in the Digital World

In Philly April 9th? Come to our event at Temple University with Series Editor Ally-Jane Grossan, Cameron Schaefer of VinylMe Please, and Tara Murtha, author of the 33 1/3 on Ode to Billie Joe !

musicprogram_postcard_FINAL_Page_1Back in December of last year, we partnered with VinylMe Please to give away a 3 month subscription to their super cool record-of-the-month club on Twitter, and we’re very excited to be working with them once more in this discussion of the critique and reception of music in the digital world!

What does it mean as both music and its discourse move from very physical spaces (the album, the print publication) to virtual ones (Spotify, Pandora, iTunes, Pitchfork)? How as music listening changed in the digital age and how as criticism adapted to follow suit? And what’s behind the renewed interest in vinyl records and print reviews? Moderating the discussion will be Tara Murtha, the author of the fantastic 33 1/3 on Ode to Billie Joe. (But don’t just take our word for it. Check out this feature in the LA Times, and read an interview with Tara as well as an excerpt at Wondering Sound!)

After the discussion, there will be a reception for mingling, eating, book-buying, VinylMe Please subscribing (hint hint), and more. Facebook event to come!
