This has been an insanely busy summer for us here at Bloomsbury. I’m tearing through manuscripts like it’s my job (well, it is) and have been glaring enviously at my tan colleagues fresh off the boat from Martha’s Vineyard.
I’ve just approved the cover for Serge Gainsbourg’s Histoire de Melody Nelson by Darran Anderson today. So Serge is off to the printers soon. We should have advanced copies in early October so stay tuned for a special Histoire de Melody Nelson-themed listening/launch party menu.
Flood and I Get Wet are just a few months away!
I’m currently reading Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works Vol II by Marc Weidenbaum, Beach Boys’ Smile by Luis Sanchez, Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville by Gina Arnold, J. Dilla’s Donuts by Jordan Ferguson, Richard Hell and The Voidoids’ Blank Generation by Pete Astor, Oasis’ Definitely Maybe by Alex Niven and Gang of Four’s Entertainment! by Kevin J. H. Dettmar. And no, I don’t have a life.
I’m also working on a new project: a sort of off-shoot of the 33 1/3 series but about popular music in countries outside the Anglosphere. Currently I’m focusing on the music of South America, Central America and the Caribbean. So, if you’re a professor who specializes in the music of Brazil, Argentina, Cuba, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, etc. and are interested in learning more about the series please email me at ally.grossan@bloomsbury.com.
As I mentioned in the last series update, I’ll be posting an open call for proposals on January 31, 2014. If you have any questions about that please feel free to post them in the comments section below and I’ll do my best to answer them.
xoxo
