Winner announced: Bloomsbury advent calendar 2012 competition

Hello from the London office (trying very hard to resist the urge to say ‘London calling’)!

Some of you might remember opening a door on Bloomsbury’s Advent Calendar on bloomsbury.com at Christmas and seeing a competition to win 10 33 1/3 titles of your choice – a handy way to swiftly expand or begin your own personal 33 1/3 library!

As the competition is now closed, it is time to pick the winner. I was absolutely overwhelmed by the response the competition had – I never dreamed we would receive as many entries as we did from around the world. Some people made such lovely comments on their entries they genuinely brightened my day.

However, making a lovely comment, although much appreciated, did not flatter us into choosing you as the winner… the winner has been fairly and squarely picked at random by random.org, who chose entry #139, who is…

Ursula Hunt in Tyne and Wear, UK!

Many congratulations to Ursula and we’ll be in touch shortly to arrange your prize. Commiserations to everyone else, but thank you so much for taking the time to enter.

There’s lots to look forward to from the series in 2013, even if you’re not our competition winner. Look out for 6 new titles publishing this year, the first due in Spring:

Tori Amos’ Boys for Pele
They Might Be Giants’ Flood
Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville
Serge Gainsbourg’s Histoire de Melody Nelson
Oasis’ Definitely Maybe
Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works Volume II

We also hope you’ve had chance to look at the new Music area of Bloomsbury.com where you can see all of our 33 1/3 titles and others in popular music and sound studies. We’ve recently published the brilliant Sound of Tomorrow: How Electronic Music was Smuggled into the Mainstream by Mark Brend and encourage you all to check it out!
