Video Vault Episode 59: Don’t Cry Genocide

Like pretty much everyone else, I productively spent this past Sunday spiraling irreversibly into an abyss of House of Cards. Unlike everyone else (I guess?), I hadn’t been following the media frenzy leading up to Season 3, and so when Kevin Spacey uttered the words “those Pussy Riot girls” at the beginning of Episode 3, I sat up, bleary-eyed and dazed from having subjected myself to hours of Netflix, and lost it a little bit.

As such, for today’s video vault I bring you the end credits of Season 3, Episode 3 of House of Cards, which showcases a new song by Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Masha Alyokhina, co-created by and featuring Le Tigre’s Johanna Fateman and JD Samson. You can read Fateman discuss the process of making and filming the video below here.

P.S. Did you know that in addition to being a feminist revolutionary and overall bad-ass, Nadya is also a genius philosophy student? Read her spar intellectually with Slavoj Žižek in a series of letters written during her time in Russia’s IK-14 labor camp, aka the penal colony described as having “the highest levels of security, the longest workdays, and the most flagrant rights violation.”
